Train travel in Sweden
Sweden's rail network is among Europe's most advanced, conecting the major centres in the south of the country and extending beyond the Arctic Circle.
Major routes are served by the X2000, a high speed train which travels at speeds of up to 200km/h (125mph) slashing travel times in Sweden. The fastest train between Stockholm and Gothenburg now takes only 2 hours and 54 minutes, while the Stockholm to Malmö service is covered in under four hours.
Other trains include InterCity trains plus a number of InterRegio services operating on regional routes throughout the country.
Night trains offer a choice of either an exclusive compartment, a shared compartment or a couchette. Couchettes are the cheapest of these options. Other facilities on some night trains include a cinema and bistro coach.
Seat reservations are required on all X2000 and night trains.
