Akershus Fortress and Castle

Dating from 1299, this spectacular castle features dominates the Kvadraturen neighbourhood just south of the city centre. During summer there are often concerts held in the fortress grounds and it also offers great views of central Oslo. The castle was renovated by Christian IV in the 17th century and has been used as a palace and also as a prision during WWII.
