Athens International Airport (ATH) – also known as Eleftherios Venizelos airport – is a new airport that began operation in 2001. It is the busiest airport in Greece and the main hub for Aegean Airlines. It is also served by many low cost airlines including easyJet, Germanwings, Norwegian, Ryanair and Vueling.
The airport is connected to the city by both metro (line 3) and the Proastiakos suburban rail network. The metro is the most direct link into the city centre of the two systems. Transport to and from the airport is priced higher than other public transport fares elsewhere in the city and a trip between the airport and the city centre (on either metro or the suburban train) costs €8.
