Athens International Airport (ATH) – also known as Eleftherios Venizelos airport – is a new airport that began operation in 2001. It is the busiest airport in Greece and the main hub for Aegean Airlines. It is also served by many low cost airlines including easyJet, Germanwings, Norwegian, Ryanair and Vueling.

The airport is connected to the city by both metro (line 3) and the Proastiakos suburban rail network. The metro is the most direct link into the city centre of the two systems. Transport to and from the airport is priced higher than other public transport fares elsewhere in the city and a trip between the airport and the city centre (on either metro or the suburban train) costs €8.

Apparently if you're flying into the States, you're not allowed to buy liquids at Duty Free anymore. Buy your olive oil before getting to the airport and put it in your checked bag.

Duty Free area by the "B" gates offers a nice place to hang out if you have extra time to kill.

Very expensive restaurants and cafeterias. Better bring your sandwiches from home with you.

there are zero drinking fountains once you get in the b gates, but if you head downstairs once through security there are a few kiosks with coffee, snacks, drinks, souvenirs, etc. by b29 & b22.

Make sure to get something to eat before you go to your gate - only vending machines and overpriced chips by the gates.

Must see: Acrolopolis, rises high & proud and visible from any corner of Athens. It is a temple which used to house a giant statue of Athena, the patron goddess.
