Basel Badischer Bahnhof to the north of the Rhine is operated by Deutsche Bahn (DB) and is used almost exclusively for trains to Germany. With the exception of trains on line S6 of the Basel S-Bahn, all trains from this station are operated by DB.
Although some German trains also stop at the larger Basel SBB train station, there are many more trains to Germany that depart from Basel Badischer Bahnhof.
There is an international border crossing in the passenger tunnel between the tracks and the main station building with the platforms being treated as being part of Germany and the shops in the station hall located in Switzerland.
Basel S-Bahn line S6 and tram line 2 run between Basel Badischer Bahnhof (the DB station) and the Basel SBB/SNCF train station.
